Exploring our Relationships
Welcome to another fall semester with the St. Luke’s
youth! We had a wonderful end to our summer together
and have finally settled into a new school year. We
can’t wait to see what God will do with us this time
around…
At the first Sunday School meeting of the semester I invited parents to join us in order to hear about our plans for Christian education in the youth ministry at St. Luke’s. We considered together the importance of learning some of the core things about our faith with the same seriousness that we bring to our studies in junior or senior high school. Our time together each Sunday morning (9:20–10:20 a.m.) is focused on just such learning, and we are going about this by focusing on the Church Year and on the Bible lessons assigned for each Sunday. We have been learning how to lead Morning Prayer so that each youth will have a chance to lead us in worship one week this semester.
Youth Group (Sundays, 6:00-7:45 p.m.) will focus on relationships this semester as we seek to find God at work in all the nooks and crannies of life. We have taken a look at relationships with people like siblings and spouses, and in the coming weeks we will consider many other relationships (friendships, teammates, parents, teachers, neighbors, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc.). We are totally convinced that God shows up in all areas of life (not just “at church”); and focusing on relationships has given us the opportunity to move toward living a more integrated Christian life.
This semester we hope to put together a service project of some sort and a retreat-type experience of some sort. We are currently working on the details of these events, so stay tuned to the usual outlets (email, Facebook)!
Peace to you!
